Adult Day Enrichment
Adult Enrichment is an adult day program established by the Alois Alzheimer
Center to provide daytime care, treatment and companionship for individuals
with dementia. Adult Enrichment allows individuals to live at home
and receive specialized care during the day. This allows family
members to attend to work responsibilities or to enjoy free time for
themselves, knowing their loved ones are being cared for by specialists
in the field of Alzheimer’s disease.
The Center’s Adult Environment program provides many benefits
for all involved in the program. Participants are afforded the
opportunity to spend time with individuals their own age with similar
interests, and who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia
like themselves. Participants are also encouraged to engage in
both familiar and new activities without the pressure and stress they
may encounter in other environments, allowing for stimulation and enjoyment
throughout the day which often leads to a better night’s sleep. In
addition, families report that the Center’s Adult Enrichment program
allows them to take care of errands or enjoy time socializing with their
peers, relieving them of the stress of full-time caregiving. This
caregiving break, in turn, promotes a more pleasant and relaxed opportunity
in the evening for families and individuals with dementia to simply enjoy
time spent together.
Adult Enrichment includes a variety of therapeutic activities and provides
opportunities for friendship and socialization. Participants have
free access to the outdoor therapeutic gardens. Trips outside the
facility for special events are provided in a safe and protective environment. These
carefully planned events may include outings to Reds games, B&B Riverboat
cruises, train rides, lunch, movies, museums, and parks.
